As publishing on the internet takes only a few seconds (e.g. with Twitter), the information can be very recent, almost ‘live’. Now that many people have internet access on their mobile phones, information is being published from every place. Information on the Internet has not always been checked and is therefore often less reliable.
In Wikipedia’s for example everyone can add an article or information. And on YouTube, everybody can place a video.
If someone puts wrong information on Wikipedia it can take a while to find the mistakes and correct them. That’s why information on the internet can be unreliable. But there are also many reliable websites of high quality on the net.
On the other hand, on the web there is a lot of information to find that is less dependent on the money of advertisors. Therefore, the internet is a more free medium than for example newspapers or television.
So the fact that the internet is less controlled, is at the same time a bad thing and a good thing!
