What do you want to know?
You have roughly decided on the topic for your project but
need a clearer idea. So first of all you go to the school library. Here
you will find all the information you need to familiarize yourself with
your topic: dictionaries and encyclopaedias. For instance, you might want
to write something about the history of pop music. In the encyclopaedia
you will find terms like rock and roll, beat music, folk, blues, funk,
etc. Based on this information you will be better able to define your
topic, to collect synonyms and related terms, and to decide if you
want to limit yourself to a certain period or country. These synonyms
and related terms are the keywords you will be using in your search
for information. In doing so, you will get a clearer picture of
your topic. Moreover you will be in a better position to prove the usefulness
and reliability of newly found information. If your topic covers current
affairs it would be sensible to start searching for information in recent
sources like articles in newspapers and journals.
